CRIME PREVENTION THOUGHTS/REMINDERS

The arrest of five persons by the public safety department for garage and car larcenies should significantly reduce larcenies.  The arrests also cleared up a home break in for our neighbors in Farmington Hills.  The Farmington Observer published an editorial on July 30th, applauding the arrests and reminding residents to stop being “an easy target.”  It accurately suggested the easiest way to curb the theft problem is to “simply lock doors, close and lock garages and bring all valuable inside the house.  It’s that easy.”

Rarely does the Farmington Public Safety Department respond to theft reports where something was securely locked or out of sight.

COPS GRANT

The public safety department was recently notified that a Department of Justice grant will fund a public safety officer’s position for three years. Farmington requested the grant to start an “Apartment Watch” program and replace a vacant public safety officer position due to a hiring freeze in November 2008.
