For reporting purposes, crimes are categorized in groups. Group A crimes can best be described as the 20 most serious offenses. Group B crimes are the next 10 less serious offenses. Group C includes 12 categories of minor offenses and calls for service. There were 496 total Group A offenses in 2008, compared to 510 in 2007 The total of Group A offenses decreased 2.7 percent last year. The most notable crime decreases were larcenies. There were 137 larcenies during the year 2008 compared to 153 the prior year. Group B offenses decreased 1.2 percent in 2008. There were 647 Group B offenses in 2008 compared to 655 in 2007. Contributing factors included a record high 182 drunken driving arrests. Group C offenses decreased 4.8 percent. There were 4,957 Group C incidents in 2008, compared to 5,207 in 2007. The total of all Part A,B, and C crime classifications decreased 4.3% in 2008.
