For reporting purposes, crimes are categorized in groups. Group A crimes can best be described as the 20 most serious offenses.  Group B crimes are the next 10 less serious offenses.  Group C includes 12 categories of minor offenses and calls for service.

There were 511 total Group A offenses in 2007, compared to 579 in 2006 The total of Group A offenses decreased 11.7 percent last year. The most notable crime decreases were larcenies. There were 154 larcenies during the year 2007  compared to 199 the prior year. 

Group B offenses increased 9 percent in 2007. There were 652 Group B offenses in 2007 compared to 585 in 2006. Contributing factors included sixteen (16) additional general ordinance violations and a record high. 162 drunken driving arrests.  

Group C offenses increased 2 percent. There were 5,195 Group C incidents in 2007, compared to 5,083 in 2006. The total of all Part A,B, and C crime classifications increased 1.8% in 2007.
