MONTHLY CRIME PREVENTION REMINDERS

The success of citizens as the eyes and ears of public safety was demonstrated in August.  As a result of fast victim and witness reporting, numerous persons were arrested during the month for larcenies, auto theft and a home invasion.

The August monthly crime report was unfortunately longer than most monthly reports.  However, serious crime is still down 8.5% during the first eight months of 2008.  This drop in crime follows a 12% decrease in serious crime in 2007.

For the first time anyone can remember, there were no garage larcenies in Farmington during June, July and August.  Residents are commended for keeping their garage doors closed.  Last summer, numerous garage larcenies occurred and the public safety department responded by passing out hundreds of crime prevention notices to residents who left their garage doors open at night.

Although occurring in September, not August, an elderly couple was followed home in their car and was robbed by a masked gunman inside of their garage.  Similar incidents have occurred recently in other suburban communities.  If you ever suspect you are being followed, dial 9-1-1 and head for the nearest police department or public place.
